Partnerships, Mergers and Consortia Forum
In this day and age we constantly hear from funding bodies they desire funded services to be working in partnership and collaboration. We also talk of smaller organisations being outgunned by the larger ones.
Inner Sydney Regional Council for Social Development is hosting a Partnerships, Mergers and Consortia forum to provide an opportunity for discussion about how smaller NGOs can collaborate, partner or merge effectively.
Speakers include Amanda Smithers from NCOSS Management Support Unit and Janet Green, Executive Officer, Junction Neighbourhood Centre.

Bring your pet to Ward Park and Northcott Community Centre, Surry Hills for the Northcott Pet Day! If you don’t have a pet, come along anyway and enjoy the animal action – everyone is welcome.

KLC’s Mental Health Law, Powers of Attorney and Capacity Issues Workshop
Kingsford Legal Centre’s next free workshop as part of their Community Workers Series will be on Mental Health Law, Powers of Attorney and Capacity issues. It will provide an overview of the Mental Health Act provisions, and the different ways the law deals with the issue of “capacity” to make decisions.
The workshop will be presented by solicitors from the Kingsford Legal Centre.

Free Financial Counselling Advice
Do you or a client need free financial counselling? Advice about managing debts?
Financial Counsellors of NSW Inc. is a free community service provided by financial counsellors working in non-profit organisations that assist people who are experiencing financial problems. A financial counsellor is a worker who acts without a conflict of interest, as a negotiator and an advocate on behalf of people who are at financial risk. They do not, however, give advice on legal matters.
Financial counsellors work closely with community organisations and can provide referrals to people in crisis who require support such as food vouchers, assistance with electricity and water payments, personal counselling for family issues, legal advice and mental health services.
Anti-Poverty Week 13-19 October 2013
More than 300 activities were organised for Anti-Poverty Week 2012 by organisations across Australia. The success of Anti-Poverty Week depends on these activities raising the profile of the issue. Any activity, large or small, that helps people to express their interest and concern about any aspect of local, national or global poverty is very welcome.
Your activity may want to encourage debate or discussion; call for action; promote a local community service; get the local community together; or do something artistic or spiritual. Ideas for activities can be found here.

Anti-Poverty Week was established in Australia as an expansion of the UN’s annual International Anti-Poverty Day (on October 17 this year). The main aims of Anti-Poverty Week are to:
- strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and in Australia;
- encourage research, discussion and action to address these problems, including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments.
Mental Health Month Event
The Inner City Mental Health Working Party will be celebrating Mental Health month with a Mad Jam Session!
There will be a free BBQ, coffee cart, information stalls, games and activities and the chance for everyone to show off their talents in the Mad Jam session.
Bring your guitar, ukulele, recorder, poems, or even just yourself and help us make some happy sounds.

Woollahra Small Community and Cultural Grants
Have you got any great ideas that will benefit residents of the Woollahra community?
Grants of up to $1,000 are available through Woollahra Council’s Community and Cultural Small Grants Program.
Some previously funded projects include Bush tucker walks for Aboriginal education, Non-denominational Christmas carols, tools for a local Men’s Shed and an art program for people with mental health issues.
Looking Forward Looking Back 4 Mental Health forum
The Inner City Mental Health Recovery Working Group is hosting the 4th Looking Forward Looking Back Mental Health Forum.
Who should attend?
- Mental health consumers,
- Mental health service providers
- Mental Health clinicians
- Community workers
- Carers
- Anyone interested in understanding how to assist in individual and community mental health well-being.
The day will be opened by Alex Greenwich MP and include panel discussion with mental health professionals, peer support workers and consumers. The Inner City Narratives Project will also be launched by the Lord Mayor, Clover Moore.
Mad Jam performers will provide entertainment.

Memory Information Day – Celebrating Carers Week
The day is for anyone to have a chat about general memory issues and concerns. Carers and family members of people living with dementia are very welcomed.
Drop in anytime between 10am to 3pm to chat to staff from the local Dementia Advisory Service and Alzheimer’s Australia NSW. Find out how you can reduce the risk of developing dementia and how to keep your brain healthy.
