Inner Sydney Voice Region What are our State Electorates?
This is a guide to the ten State Government electorates in the Inner Sydney Voice region. The ISV region covers around 590,000 registered voters which is more than 10% of the total NSW voting population.
The ISV region includes six Local Government Areas:
- City of Sydney
- Bayside
- Inner West
- Randwick
- Waverley
- Woollahra

Of the ten electorates, 6 are currently held by Labor, 2 The Green and 1 each by the Liberals and an Independent.
Two sitting members are not recontesting the 2023 NSW Election, namely

For each Inner Sydney electorate, the registered candidates are listed below, including some information about each electorate including the judgements of election specialists about the relative margins the seats are held by.
ISV is a non-party political organisation. We seek strong representation on the key issues identified in discussion with our community. We don’t endorse particular candidates or parties. We seek support across the board for the issues outlined in our NSW Election Platform 2023.
BALMAIN
The Greens MP is The Hon Jamie Parker has represented this seat since 2011 is retiring.
Safe Greens 10.0% v ALP
The electorate of Balmain covers 16.1 square kilometres and takes in all of the former Leichhardt Council area, absorbed into the new Inner West Council in 2016. The seat includes the suburbs of Birchgrove, Balmain, Rozelle, Lilyfield, Leichhardt and Annandale, as well as Glebe and most of Ultimo from Sydney City Council.

COOGEE

Coogee is an eastern suburbs electorate bounded by Bondi Road and Syd Einfeld Drive in the north, Centennial Park and Anzac Parade in the west, and running down the coast as far as South Coogee. The electorate covers 14.6 square kilometres and includes the suburbs of Queens Park, Waverley, Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly, Coogee, South Coogee, Randwick and parts of Bondi, Bondi Junction, Kensington and Kingsford. It covers the Randwick and Waverley Local Government Areas.

Very Safe Labor 15.3%.
The electorate of Heffron covers a disparate collection of suburbs in inner Sydney to the north and north-east of Sydney Airport. It straddles four local government areas, taking in St Peters, Sydenham and Tempe from Inner West Council, parts of Kensington and Kingsford from Randwick Council, Mascot and Eastlakes from Bayside Council, and Waterloo, Zetland, Beaconsfield, Green Square and most of Alexandria from Sydney City Council. Covers 28.7 square kilometres, though substantial parts of the electorate are taken up by Sydney Airport and surrounding industrial areas.

Kogarah is a southern Sydney electorate in the St George district. It extends north-west from Blakehurst and Kogarah Bay between King Georges, Harrow and Bexley Roads as far north as the M5. It includes all or parts of Beverly Hills, Kingsgrove, Hurstville, Bexley, Bexley North, Kogarah, Carlton, Allawah, Blakehurst, Kogarah Bay and Carss Park. Covers 22 square kilometres. Kogarah includes parts of the Canterbury-Bankstown and Bayside Local Government Areas.

Safe Labor 8.3%
The electorate of Maroubra covers the inner south-east coastal suburbs of Sydney in the Randwick and Bayside Local Government Areas. It runs along Anzac Parade from the Nine Ways at Kingsford to La Perouse and extends west as far as Southern Cross Drive. It includes Maroubra, Malabar, Chifley, Little Bay, Phillip Bay, La Perouse, Banksmeadow, Botany, Hillsdale, Matraville, Pagewood, Daceyville and parts of Kingsford and South Coogee. Less affluent than other seats in Sydney’s east, Maroubra includes significant public housing estates as well as Port Botany and its surrounding industrial areas. Covers 46.9 square kilometres.

Newtown is the state’s smallest electorate at just 10.8 square kilometres. It runs in a narrow strip from South Dowling Street to the Dulwich Hill light rail line at Lewisham, south of Parramatta Road and Cleveland Street with the main western rail line as its spine. The electorate includes Redfern, Chippendale, Darlington, Camperdown, Erskineville, Newtown, Enmore, Stanmore, Petersham, Lewisham and parts of Marrickville and Alexandria
Newtown covers parts of the City of Sydney and Inner West Local Government Areas.

Rockdale is a settled St George district electorate in Sydney’s southern suburbs. It covers the western side of Botany Bay, along the shore including the suburbs of Kyeemagh, Brighton le Sands, Monterey, Ramsgate, Sandringham and Sans Souci, as well as Arncliffe, Bardwell Park, Wolli Creek and Rockdale further inland. Covers 41.4 square kilometres.
Rockdale includes Bayside and part of Georges River Local Government Areas.

Summer Hill is a new electorate in Sydney’s inner-west. It includes all or parts of Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Lewisham, Summer Hill, Ashbury, Ashfield and Haberfield. It covers 15.9 square kilometres and includes part of the Inner West Council and part of the City of Canterbury Local Government Areas.

This electorate takes in the Sydney CBD and surrounding suburbs north of Cleveland Street, plus Moore Park and Centennial Park to the east. As well as the CBD, The Rocks, Millers Point and Haymarket, the electorate includes Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Woolloomooloo, Kings Cross, Elizabeth Bay, Potts Point, Paddington and Surry Hills. Covers 18.7 square kilometres.
It covers parts of the City of Sydney, as well as parts of the neighbouring City of Randwick and Woollahra Local Government Areas.

Vaucluse is a Sydney eastern suburbs electorate based on the South Head peninsula north of Bondi Road and Oxford Street, east of Rushcutters Bay and Ocean Street. It includes the suburbs of Watsons Bay, Vaucluse, Rose Bay, Dover Heights, North Bondi, Bondi Beach, Bellevue Hill, Point Piper, Double Bay, Darling Point, Woollahra, Edgecliff and parts of Bondi. Covers 24.4 square kilometres.
Vaucluse covers most of Woollahra and half of Waverley Local Government Areas.
