The Activity Work Plan approval process for CHSP Sector Support providers is underway.
Inner Sydney Voice believes that acumen developed and shared nationally can help to build consistent and quality service providers. However, the real strength-building capability potential lies in place-based, relational approaches to sector development, coordination, and planning. A strategy that works with local service systems in communities across Australia.
There is increasing pressure for SSDO-generated projects and resources to be developed and shared nationally. Still, we are challenging the assumption that everything can or should be scaled. A national and centralised approach doesn’t strengthen local systems. In fact, it can take away their confidence and their responsibility in identifying and solving some of their local service system challenges.
In our region, for example, understanding and responding to the local leadership challenges has been identified as a priority. Leading teams in a reforming context is not easy. That’s why we are working to bring these local leaders together to resolve challenges like workforce issues, supporting older people living in high rise social housing around the City, better engagement with hard to reach CHSP eligible, older people (e.g., people experiencing homelessness) and building better practice particularly about creating local, dementia friendly service systems and communities.
At ISV, we know that many of the most effective solutions are deeply embedded in region-specific relationships, service networks, and community needs. Local partnerships can design care that reflects regional realities, and local actors are best positioned to understand and respond. These approaches are far more likely to strengthen local service systems and ultimately enable older people to live well in their chosen communities.
