For the next CAFS Learning Series, Inner Sydney Voice is inviting you to bring all the questions you have about community development, facilitation, advocacy and working alongside communities.
Our social work placement student, Sunny, will be asking some of her own burning questions and passing on yours to Charlie Coorey, a much-loved Inner Sydney Voice team member and a legend in the sector.
Charlie has five decades of experience across youth justice, council work, crisis and street work, disability support and education, multicultural services, representation and advocacy, and the NGO sector.
There are not many situations or challenges Charlie has not faced in his 50 years of community work. He has built trust with communities, supported people through crisis, worked across systems, advocated for change and facilitated countless conversations in complex settings.
Now, he is generously sharing that experience in a practical one-hour online session.
This is a chance to ask the questions you might not want to ask your manager, or the questions that only really come up once you are in the work. Whether you are new to the sector, still finding your confidence, or simply want to learn from someone with deep experience, this session is designed to be useful, honest and grounded in practice.
Questions might include:
- How do you build and keep trust with community members?
- How do you facilitate a group when people have different needs or expectations?
- How do you advocate well from within your role?
- How do you work with frustration, conflict or disengagement?
- How do you keep investing in change when systems feel slow?
Sunny will bring the questions. Charlie will bring the wisdom.
