Why have this training?
Many older people and people with disability find it difficult to get online, because they don’t have the means to do so. They might find it hard to afford getting online, or they’re confused about the technology, and about internet and mobile data plans. Support workers and carers are often trusted by older people and people with disability to help them with using new technology. But when it comes to knowing what is the best way to get online, the marketplace can be a challenge to navigate for anyone.
This free online training is designed to give workers and carers the confidence to help the person they support to find the online option or device that will suit them, at a price that they can afford.
What’s in the training
The training will cover the following topics:
- choosing a smartphone and plan
- reducing data usage
- using WiFi, including free WiFi
- passwords
- accessibility options on smartphones and tablets
- a digital device, and know how to use it
- to be comfortable finding their way around online
The target area for this training is the City of Sydney.
How the training is provided
The training is being run online in three different groups. Each group comprises two one-hour sessions, one week apart:
Aged Care or Disability Workers
Group A

Workers or carers can register themselves, or organisations can register interested people on their behalf.
How the data plans are provided
We have a very limited number of free data plans available to vulnerable older people or people with disability, who are clients or family members/friends of training attendees. We will give priority to people who are isolated, in difficult circumstances, and find it hard to afford online access.
