The protection of lower-level care (currently provided through CHSP) involves committing to evidence-based early intervention support. This lower level of care should always be about preventing or delaying inappropriate or premature entry into higher levels of care (HCPs, hospitals, or residential aged care).
The plan is to build a Support at Home Program, which will replace the current Home Care Packages (HCP), Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC), and ultimately, part of what we now know as the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).
For many of our local CHSP services, the decision to transition from being a CHSP provider to a higher-level care provider (Support at Home) hasn’t always been easy. It’s a complex decision that senior managers and Boards need to weigh up. Some organisations have already navigated this path.
