Groundswell ‘Challenge 4 Change’ – Soap Box 101

Have knowledge and skills you want to share with others but fear public speaking? Have views you like to share at a public gatherings but frightened to speak up? Want to inspire others?
This module will cover:
· What is public speaking?
· Learn to understand your audience
· Learn Presenting, Speaking, and Group Work techniques to make your presentations more effective
· Tips in building confidence and allaying fears
There will also be an opportunity to participate in role plays and receive constructive feedback.
The Groundswell Coalition is offering the 3rd module in its Challenge for Change series on public speaking at the Factory Community Centre, 67 Raglan St, Waterloo on Thursday 14th February from 9.30am- 1.30pm. All Groundswell training opportunities are free.

Equal Renumeration Supplement Funding

FACS has established a process for reviewing claims from organisations concerned that the proportion of their funding that is Social and Community Services (SACS) Modern Award sensitive is significantly greater than the supplementation provided.

FACS has put further details about how organisations should seek a review of the Equal Remuneration Supplementation Funding they have been provided. These details are available on the FACS website.

Just a note to advise you that that these two organisations have moved from the Redfern Centre and that they are now based in Ultimo.

NSW Ombudsman – Review of Police Powers re: Drunk and Disorderly Conduct

The NSW Ombudsman is inviting submissions from the general public and interested persons to contribute to a review of powers recently provided to police to require drunk people being disorderly to move on from a public place and to fine or charge a person who refuses to move away or returns to any public place in the next six hours.  If you have any direct knowledge of these events, the Ombo is keen to hear from you.

On-line Community Map

Inner Sydney Regional Council is in the process of creating an extensive online map of community services in the Eastern Suburbs and Inner City. The map is very easy to read and navigate and will list each organisations details and services.

We will do all the hard work e.g. data entry and update, but we would like your input and ideas. On Wednesday March 14th we will be holding a mapping consultation from 10am -1pm at Inner Sydney Regional Council’s office, rear 770 Elizabeth St, Waterloo. If you would like your organisation’s details to be included, we need to show the format and get some advice from your representative about what information should be provided.

ICAC Position Paper – Funding of NGO Delivery of Human Services

After receiving 33 submissions, the Independent Commission Against Corruption’s (ICAC) Position Paper, Funding NGO Delivery of Human Services: A period of transition was released on 18 December 2012. The paper includes 18 recommendations including the need for reduction of red tape and support for best practice. The paper makes for interesting reading.

St Vincent’s Hospital ‘Dealing with Memory Loss and Dementia’

Healthy ageing has become a major focus in health care. With this in mind, St Vincent’s Hospital Psychogeriatric Mental Health Service is holding a Community Education Forum ‘Dealing with Memory Loss & Dementia.’

Revolution iEtiquette Fundraiser

iEtiquette and The Factory Community Centre are holding a fundraiser showcasing an amazing array of talented performers from The Village Performing Arts Centre at the Everest Theatre –Seymour Centre on March 9th 2013 at 7pm.

iEtiquette provides young and adult Indigenous and non-Indigenous women, who have faced adversity, an inspiring, engaging and educating program to bring hope and possibilities.

The Factory Community Centre runs a range of programs for the residents of the Redfern/Waterloo area, especially those who live in the surrounding public housing estates.

Sydney Senior Superstars

The inaugural Sydney Senior Superstar showcase for Seniors Week 2013 will be held on Saturday 23 March. If you or your performance group are residents of the City and aged over 55, this is your chance to shine!
The City of Sydney are inviting all talented singers, musicians, dancers, magicians, comedians, poets, ventriloquists, contortionists, choirs, and people with other prodigious talents over the age of 55 to enter our quest to find Sydney’s first Senior Superstar. Final performers will be drawn by ballot.
