This free photo exhibition celebrates 50-plus years of community-controlled legal services. It’ll take you from the streets of Redfern — where staunch young activists rose up against police brutality in the early 1970s — all the way through to the modern-day fight for justice.
When the Aboriginal Legal Service opened its doors, it was the first Aboriginal legal centre in Australia — as well as the only free legal service of any kind. Today there are Aboriginal legal services in every state and territory, but it all started right here on Gadigal Land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this exhibition contains images, voices and names of deceased persons.
